Bodybuilding Technique: Muscle Control Drill (alt Pec Flex)

November 4th, 2007 Posted in Technique

A big part of successful at bodybuilding is being able to ‘feel’ your muscles. If you are just starting out, you are probably wondering what the heck that means. It means that your brain has precise control over every little muscle so that you can maximize your results by only exercising the target muscle. Muscle control is a skill that needs to be worked on like any other skill and it would benefit you to practice it 5 minutes a day. To start out with you should practice in front of a mirror at home so you are not self conscious but later on you can do it on the bus, in the elevator, or while driving. In this drill for the chest, we are going to flex each pec independently. First flex the left pec while leaving the right one relaxed, then the reverse. Keep it very slow and controlled, like you would if you were doing heavy bench press.
